FlatMaster® aids in the fight against COVID-19 | ARKU Inc.

Chattanooga, TN - Engineered Mechanical Systems (EMS) was asked to manufacture 100,000 sanitation stands to help the US in protection against COVID-19. They were contacted because of their complete in-house manufaturing capabilities. meaning they would deliver the final product quickly and efficiently. "This was a very large and time sensitive project", stated Chris Smith, VP of manufacturing at EMS. These stand will be utilized in restaurants, daycares and lobbies for public facilities.

EMS added their FlatMaster® 55 precision leveler back in 2019. Since the machine has been acquired, processing their laser and plasma-cut parts has become a breeze. As highlighted by Chris Smith “By removing stresses out of materials, we are able to produce more consistent parts much faster with repeatable results. Consequently, once parts land on the fabricators table; the fit, form and and function of all parts is a much smoother process than before, thus removing the guess work as well.“ For the manufacturing of these sanitation stands, the cut components needed to be flattened prior to assembly. This improved the manufacturing consistency since all the raw cut materials were dead flat and stress-relieved. “Since these vertical stands are comprised of aluminum, which is difficult to process, feeding the laser-cut parts through the FlatMaster® helped release the memory within the material. Thus allowing for more consistent results in both the bending and welding processes”, mentioned Chris Smith. It also aided them in order to deliver 100,000 finished units in just 12 weeks. Ultimately, Chris Smith is very satisfied with the machine and stated “Thanks to ARKU’s FlatMaster® we were able to produce a large number of this product in a very short time and help in the fight against COVID-19”.
