Amazonian rainforest burns every year. Every year the destruction increases to provide timber and make way for livestock. The fires endanger the habitats of innumerable animal and plant species along with the existences of more than 34 million people. Yet not only their existence is at risk. These forest fires are destroying the lungs of the world. The ecosystem threatens to collapse and this could drastically accelerate global climate change. The WWF has been working in the rainforests of our world for many years. We look at the conflagration with shock and horror. The time has come to act. We can all contribute to saving the rainforest.
The WWF is fighting to protect the Amazon with ambitious projects.
Given the ecological desolation, the WWF is calling for protection for the Amazon, to fight deforestation and to reduce the causes of these fires. We need to preserve the Amazon together with other essential ecological regions to safeguard the health of our planet. Current calculations indicate that 20 percent of the rainforest has disappeared in the last 40 years alone.
