AGCO, Germany

Asbach-Bäumenheim, Germany - The demand for Fendt agricultural machinery has increased significantly, which is why the company has now switched to continuous production with laser cutting from coiled sheet metal.

AGCO: The tractor from the coil

Fendt tractors inspire children and adults worldwide. Florian Hammel, responsible for strategic plant and technology development at the Fendt plant in Asbach- Bäumenheim, is proud of the fact that all green-painted parts of a Fendt tractor come from his plant.

Employees of Fendt manufacture the sheet metal for the outer skin of the tractor cabs and hoods. Previously, a standard flatbed laser cut the body panels directly from sheet metal. However, due to increasing demand and limited storage capacity, a more efficient solution was needed. The coil laser system from TRUMPF and ARKU proved to be ideal.

Johannes Decker, coil line sales at ARKU, explains that the elimination of pallet changing time saves around 600 working hours per year and increases overall production time by around 14 percent. Cutting from coil enables better material utilization and saves around 20 percent material costs. In addition, coils are cheaper than prefabricated sheets, and around 2,400 trips transporting prefabricated sheets are eliminated each year. Florian Hammel is satisfied: “All this means that the laser blanking system pays for itself very quickly.”
