Leveling with the FlatMaster® 88. A success story from Mafesa Manufacturados Férricos SA, Spain.
MAFESA

Better quality delivered faster.

Since 1958, Mafesa has been working to offer global solutions for all types of iron and steel. With more than 50,000 m² of storage space and a wide range of metallurgical products and services, Mafesa is today a reference in the sector. From each of the 6 centers geographically distributed throughout Catalonia, the team starts each day with the conviction of being able to give our customers the fastest possible response.

Problem/Challenge:

Mafesa performs a hot cutting process for the raw material - oxygen cutting, plasma or laser. Many parts are bent during thermal cutting, which did not happen in the past because the raw material did not behave that way and returned to its original shape when heated under stress. Mafesa had an outdated leveling machine with few rolls, whose operation required highly specialized personnel and a very slow process. This straightening machine achieved only average results for certain thicknesses.

The ARKU solution:

ARKU offered the FlatMaster® 88 to the company through its representative in Spain (José Bernardo Berenguer) in 2018. Compared to other leveling processes, roll straightening with the FlatMaster® is simple and fast: In the hydraulic machine, a sheet metal part is subjected to a series of alternating bends. In the process, the material is smoothed. In this way, stamped, laser-cut or autogenous parts, where manual leveling can take several minutes to several hours, are leveled in just a few seconds.

Particularly economical: Downstream processes such as welding, bending or folding can be carried out faster and with greater process reliability.

"The robustness of the machines, the ease of use and the depth together with the final quality made us choose ARKU".

- Jordi Rosell, CEO of Mafesa, emphasizes.

The agreement was signed in Germany in 2018 between Jordi Rosell, CEO of Mafesa, Stefan Sauter, International Sales of ARKU and Peter Eiswirt, Sales and Service Manager for deburring and straightening machines at ARKU.

Customer benefits:

With the FlatMaster® 88, Mafesa has not only reached a new level of quality, but also increased production capacity. The company has been able to move from machining about 2% with its previous straightener to machining all parts that are prone to deformation, which accounts for more than 30% of the parts produced each day. This has resulted in significant time and cost savings as rework has been reduced.

This significant improvement in finishing has enabled Mafesa to strengthen customer loyalty.

The customer's opinion:

Since we started working with the FlatMaster® 88, we have noticed an increase in the quality of the products and greater satisfaction from our customers. Working with ARKU was a good decision. The only mistake was that we didn't do it earlier, says Jordi Rosell.
