Coil line for flexible cuts.
Everyone knows that driving a car is expensive. Refueling is often annoyingly expensive as well. Muhr und Bender KG is dedicated to finding solutions to this while simultaneously protecting raw material reserves. Today, the family-owned company has more than 7,000 employees. The company is represented around the world with its running gear, engine, transmission, chassis, interior and cup spring divisions. Muhr und Bender has a worldwide leading position in the spring industry and its customers include all carmakers.
Mubea’s stated goal is to safeguard its international leadership with advanced spring technologies while expanding its unique expertise in lightweight design and fuel consumption reduction.
Flexible rolling.
The company works with innovative solutions such as flexible rolling for tailored rolled blank at its Attendorn plant. This technology is distinguished by the fact that the roller gap is specifically adjusted during the rolling process via a control system. This enables the thickness along the length of the panel to be adapted to the stresses on the component in the specific location. Muhr und Bender reliably implemented the flexible rolling process at its new plant in Attendorn.
Flexible cuts.
Manufacturing shaped panels was the next important step. Working closely together, Mubea and ARKU developed a coil system for flexible blanks capable of reliably processing the various thicknesses. A series of portal punches on the integrated punching table creates customized perforation patterns.
“We collaborated to develop the specifications for the system and the result was a high-performance system”, says Dr. Hauger, Head of the Business Units Tailor Rolled Products & Cold Rolling, and continues: “The collaboration with ARKU was exceptionally efficient. The concept only required a short development period.“
A pioneering project.
Implementing the tailor rolled blanks technology was a pioneering project for Muhr und Bender KG and ARKU is proud to have been involved. “The assumptions we made during the development of the flexible cutting system have proven to be absolutely true in practice”, emphasizes Ewald Hund, Chief Technical Officer of ARKU Maschinenbau GmbH, proudly.
