Higher quality and lighter workload for employees

SÜDSTAHL specializes in steel processing and a supplier for the machine, tool and fixture construction industry. SÜDSTAHL’s service portfolio ranges from thin sheet metal and heavy plate to semi-finished products and machine components. Services also include project management as well as installation within the country and abroad. Quality is SÜDSTAHL’s top priority. Due to its wide range of services, SÜDSTAHL processes a large variety of parts with widely varying batch sizes. This is especially true when it comes to heavy plate. Deburring of plasma and flame-cut parts was previously achieved through a purely manual process with angle grinders. In addition to the high constraints on employees, the final results and the quality of the processed parts were inconsistent.

“The entire concept should make it possible that everything is fast and easy. As a result, you win the confidence of your employees to work with the equipment. The acceptance of ARKU's technology is very good at SÜDSTAHL.”

- Oliver Wetzenbacher, Head of Production

The EdgeBreaker® 4000 was put into operation in the beginning of 2018, and since then SÜDSTAHL has recorded great advances in deburring: ARKU’s deburring machine is specially designed for the removal of stubborn burrs after thermal cutting. For the EdgeBreaker® 4000, a single pass is enough to deburr and edge round the workpieces on top and bottom.

Higher performance and consistent appearance

At SÜDSTAHL, the EdgeBreaker® 4000 has made deburring of heavy plate significantly easier. The throughput of deburred plasma and flame-cut parts has increased, and also the appearance of the products remains consistent.

The implementation of the EdgeBreaker® 4000 also brought some improvements for the employees: Besides the ease of use of the machine, various handling devices on the machine itself reduce the physical strain on employees. In addition, the deburring machine is equipped with a suction system that reduces noise and dirt in comparison to manual angle grinder work.
