On time and good quality

Whether it's machine components weighing tons, steel halls or other steel structures - "we do almost everything that has to do with steel and is a bit heavier and bigger," says Felix Heimann. Together with his brother Christian and his father Norbert Heimann, he runs the business of Heimann GmbH & Co. KG in Olbernhau, Saxony.

„We save significantly on time and labor with the FlatMaster®.“

Older machines no longer met the requirements

The steel construction business unit grew strongly. Because production was reaching capacity limits and the quality in sheet metal processing was to increase, it was necessary to optimize it. Employees still had to level their parts with a straightening press. Even for deburring, there was only an older, single-sided machine.

Better quality and less effort thanks to new equipment

Therefore, Heimann purchased a FlatMaster® 120 straightening machine and an EdgeBreaker® 4000 deburring machine from ARKU. Almost all sheet metal parts go through these work steps: First they are cut to size, then deburred via the EdgeBreaker®, sandblasted and finally leveled. After leveling comes forming, machining and assembly into a welded assembly. "With the FlatMaster® in particular, we notice during forming that a certain consistency has been created," explains Heimann. This is because leveling ensures a homogeneous sheet structure and fewer deviations. At the same time, the flatness of the parts is improved. This makes tacking easier and increases accuracy.

In addition, throughput has increased. Previously, three workers were needed to level 2700 tons of sheet metal per year. Now it's 3500 tons, and the process requires only one and a half workers. In addition, the work is more ergonomic than with the straightening press.

Overall, the machines are well utilized. However, because the straightening processes are fast compared to other work steps, there is still capacity available on the FlatMaster®. Thus, the Olbernhauer now also offer pure cut-to-size and contract straightening. In addition, they can produce welded assemblies with tighter tolerances.
